KMDI Speaker Series: Using Vision Sensors for Innovative HCI

Guest Speaker: Professor Hideki Koike, Tokyo Institute of Technology

Abstract:

There are many models of vision sensor available and they are getting smaller, lighter, and less expensive. An important feature of these vision sensors is that they can pick up visual information that is invisible to humans. Effective use of this invisible information will facilitate the development of natural, intuitive, and innovative HCI. In this talk, I discuss our research using advanced vision sensors. Research interactions discussed will include an interactive water surface, gaze navigation using unaware blur, dynamic projection mapping, and camera-embedded spheres.

Biography:

Hideki Koike is a professor at School of Computing, Tokyo Institute of Technology. He received his BE, ME, and Dr. Eng. from the University of Tokyo in 1986, 1988, and 1991, respectively. After working at the University of Electro-Communications,Tokyo, he joined the Tokyo Institute of Technology in 2014. He was a visiting researcher at UC Berkeley, and University of Sydney in 1994 and 2003, respectively. His research interests include information visualization, projector-camera systems, interactive surfaces, digital sports, and cyber security.
