The Knowledge Media Design Institute (KMDI) is a cross-departmental institute at the University of Toronto that produces human-centered research and pedagogical resources aimed at exploring, critiquing, and informing the design of technological devices, media, and systems. The Institute runs a makerspace in BL417 containing 3D printers, sewing machines, accessible gaming equipment, VR technologies, and other creative technologies, where we offer a range of workshops, demos, and hands-on activities aimed at better understanding the intersection between humans and technologies. We are currently seeking a video production assistant to help us create and edit videos and related digital content as we move some of our programming and resources online for the Fall 2020.
Qualifications:
- Technical skills and experience with video production/videography
- Ability to operate audio and video equipment
- Knowledge of video editing and experience using video editing applications such as Adobe Premiere or Adobe After Effects, iMovie, Final Cut Pro
- Familiarity with other media/graphics programs (Adobe Creative Suite, Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign and Audition)
- Knowledge of video transfer/conversion
- Ability to learn new technology equipment and applications
- Self-motivated; takes initiative; pro-active
- Committed, reliable, ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Ability to work remotely
Responsibilities:
- Record and edit short videos of demos, instructional activities, research talks, and other content for promotional, pedagogical and knowledge mobilization purposes.
- Provide tech assistance and guidance to members of the research team to help them record content remotely, and assist them with editing, post-production, and video transfer/conversion.
- Work with the KMDI Director and the Makerspace research and programming supervisor to produce accessible video content to supplement the activities and goals of the Makerspace and of the KMDI more generally.
Preference will be given to current Faculty of Information Students.
The successful applicant will be offered a contract of 100 hours, to be completed over the course of the Summer 2020 May 11 – Aug 9. Pay will be based on experience.
